Killed in the Battle of Gainesville, Richmond, Virginia during the Civil War. Body was not recovered; but monument was erected in his memory by his daughter, Almie Thornton Ayers. Marshall was married to Susan Lyon Frazer on March 24, 1841 and was a blacksmith by trade.
