Bessie C. Purdue, 96, of Elizabethtown died at 9:14 p.m. Thursday, may, 31, 2007, at Columbus Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Purdue was a homemaker, loved flowers and birds and enjoyed gardening and shopping.

The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with the Rev. Barbara Grace officiating.

Calling will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. until service time Monday. Burial will be at Harmony Cemetery near Mineral Springs.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana or American Heart Association.

Born in Glasgow, Ky., Dec. 6, 1910, Mrs. Purdue was the daughter of Henry and Mirtie M. Byrd Jefferies. She married Charles Purdue.

Survivors include a son, William Purdue, who made his home with his mother; daughters, Bessie (Clarence) Bowman of Elizabethtown and Edna (Clyde) Turner of Columbus; 29 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Purdue was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in April 1989; a daughter, Gladys Grimes; sons, Charles and James Purdue; grandchildren, Thomas Turner, Eddie Purdue and Brenda Torres; and brothers, Earl and Mack Jefferies.

Bessie C. Purdue, 96, of Elizabethtown died at 9:14 p.m. Thursday, May 31, 2007, at Columbus Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral service was held Monday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home, Columbus, with the Rev. Barbara Grace officiating. Burial was at Harmony Cemetery near Mineral Springs.
