"Old Cowboy"
(In Memory of My Grandpa, Wes Odenrider)

He was an old cowboy, Wild and free.
But more than that...
He was Grandpa to me.
He taught me to shoot, ,
And never to fuss.
But when things didn't go right... Boy, could he cuss.
He shared with me things, I'll always recall.
Like when yer horse dumps you off, Don't be weak or be small. Just pick yer self up, And dust off yer ass.
That'll show the whole world you really got class.
When I started "Doggin",
I remember one of your clues.
You said, "It'll take you a while to pay all yer dues." Well Grandpa, I've paid them... Probably tenfold.
I hope to be half the cowboy you were, , When I someday grow old.
I don't understand why God took you away,
Guess he finally figured your fees had been paid. Old Cowboy yer trail on earth has come to an end, But I'm sure glad you were here to see mine begin.
