BOSCAWEN -- Edith "Edie" M. (Smith) Bailey, 76, a longtime resident of Boscawen, died May 7, 2009, in Summerville, S.C., following a period of failing health.
She was born in Rome, N.Y., April 11, 1933, daughter of William F. and Theresa (Beasock) Smith.
Mrs. Bailey enjoyed playing bingo and had a passion for playing golf. She and her late husband were longtime members of Den Brae Golf Course in Sanbornton.
She played in many ladies state golf tournaments and was a member of the Franklin Lodge of Elks. She was predeceased by two brothers and a sister. Her husband, Howard G. Bailey, died in 2001.
The family includes three daughters, Sandy Clifford of Summerville, S.C., Roxanne Mead of Hopkinton and Evelyn Pendleton of Webster; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mildred Ulmer of Floyd, N.Y.
SERVICES: Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home, Franklin-Tilton Road, Tilton. A committal service is 10 a.m. Tuesday at the State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen. Burial will follow.
