Harry Cooper of Memphis, co-founder and chairman of the board at Delta Foremost Chemical Corp., died of heart failure Thursday at Baptist Memorial Hospital East. He was 77. Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Katzman Memorial Chapel with burial in Anshei Sphard Cemetery. Canale Funeral Directors has charge. Mr. Cooper, a lifelong Memphian, was a member of the board of directors of Anshei Sphard-Beth El Emeth Congregation and spearheaded the building of the synagogue at its current location on East Yates. He also was a member of Temple Israel Synagogue and Baron Hirsch Synagogue. He co-founded Delta Foremost shortly after being discharged from the Army in 1945. The company originally was on Madison Avenue downtown and later moved to Airport Industrial Park. It produces specialty cleaning chemicals for businesses. Mr. Cooper was president of the Airport Industrial Park Association, a lifetime member of AZT fraternity, a 32nd degree Mason, a Shriner and a member of Ridgeway Country Club. He was a Boy Scout master for Troop 6, affiliated with Baron Hirsch Synagogue, in the 1940s and '50s. Mr. Cooper, the husband of Meriam Cohen Cooper for 55 years, also leaves two daughters, Linda Cooper Young of Memphis and Caren Cooper Abis of Germantown; three sons, Allan D. Cooper of Memphis, and Ronald E. Cooper and Stephen H. Cooper, both of Germantown; a brother, Sam Cooper of Memphis, and 12 grandchildren. (Published in The Commercial Appeal 8/30/1996)
