Harold, also known as Bob, was born October 18, 1921, in St. Henry, Ohio. He was the son of Harry and Pauline (Albers) Bergman. In 1936 Bob's family moved to Fort Recovery and he helped his father with the Bergman Dairy. Bob served his country during the 2nd World War. He served three and a half years in the Sixth Infantry Division as a radio operator in the Pacific Theatre. After the service, Bob came back to help on his father's farm and worked at the Bergman Garage. On October 18, 1947, he took Lucille Bettinger as his bride.

Lucille was born on April 22, 1920, in Coldwater, Ohio. She was the daughter of Arthur and Regina (Hemmelgarn) Bettinger. Lucille had worked in the office at New Idea in Coldwater for nine years before getting married. Bob and Lucille started their new life together on a farm on St. Joe Road, Fort Recovery. They raised livestock and grain farmed. In 1958, they moved to a farm on Zehringer Road, Fort Recovery, where they continued with livestock and grain. In 1971, they built a new home on the farm which is their current residence.

Bob and Lucille were blessed with four children. Their first son, Milton, was born on September 18, 1948. He married Charlene Kaiser on September 2, 1972 and they have four children, Duane -16 years old, Aaron -14, Wesley-9, and Russell-5. Their second son, Guil was born March 11, 1953. He married Deb Dues on January 21, 1977 and they have four children, Benjamin- 11years old, Maria -8, Brenda -6, and Rick -3. Their first and only daughter, Lorna, was born on June 28, 1956. She married William Mullen, Jr. on December 3, 1982 and they have two children, Matthew -6 and Andrew 1-month. Their third son, Cloyd, was born on March 10, 1961. He married Pam Klosterman on March 9, 1985 and they have two children, Bradly-3 and Tana - 1 year.

Bob and Lucille have always been members of Mary Help of Christian Church in Fort Recovery. Their faith has always carried them through their journey. Lucille has always taken great pride in her garden and flowers. Bob enjoys the serenity of the farm. They both have found much pride and pleasure with thier children and now their grandchildren.

Harold A. "Bob" Bergman, 71, Fort Recovery, died of injuries sustained in a two-truck accident in northwestern Darke County at 1:45 p.m. Thursday. Darke County Coroner William Elliott declared him dead at the scene.

He was born Oct. 18, 1921, in St. Henry, to Harry and Pauline (Albers) Bergman. His step-mother, Mary Rose Bergman, survives. On Oct. 18, 1947, in Coldwater, he married Lucille Bettinger, who also survives.

Other survivors are three sons, Milton and Cloyd, both Fort Recovery, and Guil, St. Henry; a daughter, Mrs. Bill (Lorna) Muhlenkamp, Middeltown; six brothers, Ralph, Fruitland Park, Fla., Walter, Lavern, Melvin and Floyd, all Fort Recovery, and Charles "Jack" St. Henry, four sisters, Ruth Finch, Vandalia, and Mrs. Cy (Betty Jean) Brockman, Mrs. Bill (Marjorie) Hooker and Mrs. Rosco (Elsie) Timmerman, all Fort Recovery; and 12 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Paul.

Mr. Bergman was a farmer and member of Mary Help of Christians Catholic church, Fort Recovery. He had attended St. Henry and Fort Recovery schools and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Knights of Columbus and American Legion, both Fort Recovery, and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Coldwater.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, the Rev. Paul Wohlwind officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Calling hours are 2-9 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. until the service Monday at Brockman and Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery, where a wake service will be held at 8:45 Sunday.
