The below obituary is from the "West Plains Quill" on January 25, 1961, page 2

"Nova Stuart Woodside, 92, died yesterday at 5 p.m. in St. Louis.

Born in Thomasville to the late Mr. and Mrs. Posey Woodside. She graduated from Drury College and taught school for several years in Alton, West Plains, and Springfield.

She was supervisor of the Women's division of the Frisco Railroad for a number of years.

For a quarter of a century she was librarian of the Graduate Library and rare Books Division at Washington University in St. Louis, retiring 20 years ago.

Funeral arrangements will be under direction of Hoffmeister Colonial Funeral Home on Chippewa in St. Louis at 1:30 tomorrow afternoon with Dr. Bradford Powell officiating.

There are two nieces here, Misses Virginia and Ann Woodside. Miss Ann Woodside, plans to fly there for the service tomorrow if weather permits."


Additional information: For the 1900-1901 school year, Nova taught first grade at Waddill School in Springfield, Missouri.

Nova Woodside was appointed supervisor of the Frisco Women's Safety First League by F. A. Wightman in August 1917. In this position, she travelled to Arkansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma to establish other Safety Leagues.

The following is from "Woman's Whos' Who of America, 1914-1915" John William Leonard, editor, page 902

"degrees in kindergarten schools of Washington, D. C.; teacher's certificate for life in Mo. Mem. [Member] Order of Eastern Star; organized Civic League of Thayer, Mo.; Mem. United Daughters of the Confederacy at West Plains, was sponsor for the State of Missouri at Dallas, Tex.; special delegate to the last meeting of Gen. Fed. of Women's Clubs, held in Cal. Author of small plays and arrangements for kindergartens and primary work, often reports work for local papers or magazines. Methodist. Democrat. Recreation: Travel. Pres. Crescite Club of Thayer, Mo., seven years; pres. of Bachelor Girls' Mystic Seven Club of Thayer, Mo.; pres. Alexandrine Club of West Plains, Mo., four years.


She died at the Home of the Friendless (Charless House) in St. Louis in January 1961.
