SOPHENIA "SOPHIE" AUE Sophenia "Sophie" Aue, 74, of Palmer, Texas passed away Friday, September 29, 2023. She was born January 19, 1949, in Smith County, the daughter of Rachel and Milton Martin. She was raised in Lancaster, Texas where she graduated high school. She attended the University of North Texas where she earned her bachelor's degree. She began her teaching career in Hondo, Texas and then while teaching in San Antonio, Texas met the love of her life, Joe Aue. They married on December 20, 1976, and began their family soon after. In 1980, Sophie and her family moved to Lancaster. She taught in Red Oak and then was a stay-at-home mom. She started teaching again in Lancaster and in 1999 moved to Palmer. She taught in Palmer until she retired in 2015. Over her 25-year teaching career, she taught English for grades 6-12, Yearbook, and Spanish. She was an avid reader and loved gardening. She always grew a "pollinator's" garden full of plants native to Texas. She wrote a garden column for the Ennis Daily News for many years. She loved watching the hummingbirds visit her garden and photographed them often. Some of her photos were published along with articles she wrote. Sophie was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She is survived by six children and their families - Eric, Frank, Rachel, James, Charles and David; daughter-in-law Linh; her three brothers, Rob, Ray and his wife Pam, Randy; her two sisters, Lucretia and her husband Phillip, Valencia and her husband Robert; her nephews; one grandchild; and many extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. A memorial service will be Friday, October 6 at 10 a.m. at Bristol United Methodist Church in Bristol, Texas.
