Gin Burns. – The ginning establishment of Messrs. M. V. and S. M. Maley, about 3 ½ miles south west of Fredonia was destroyed by fire Sunday at about 11 o’clock. The fire is believed to have been of incendiary origin. The loss is about $1,000.00. No insurance. Their friends will regret to hear of their misfortune.

PROMINENT CITIZEN OF CHAMBERS COUNTY DEAD
Hon. Martin Van Buren Maley died after an illness of only two hours at his home at Fredonia early Monday morning. He was in his 84th year. Mr. Maley was one of the best and most honored citizens of Chambers county. He had served his county as tax collector and as a member of the legislature. He was a Confederate veteran. He was faithful member of the Baptist church. Interment was at (Old) Rock Springs on Tuesday afternoon following funeral services conductedat the late home of the deceased.

1919 Confederate Pension Application Information.
Martin V. Maley, Route 2, LaFayette, AL, states that he is 78 years and 20 days old, that he has been a resident of Alabama since 1869. He enlisted in the Confederate Army at Elberton, Georgia on July 15, 1861, in Company "I" 15th Georgia Infantry, under Capt. Joe Smith and Col. Thomas. At Gettysburg in July, 1863, he was shot twice, in the arm and leg. At Spotsylvania in May, 1864, he was shot once in the neck. In April, 1865, he was paroled at Washington, Wilkes County, Georgia.
Besides the state of Alabama, he resided in Elbert and Madison counties in Georgia 25-26 years.
He was married on January 10, 1864.
His Real Estate consisted of 423 acres including dwelling house, tenant houses, barns and sheds valued at $2,400.
