Emerson Knox Foltz
At his request a private graveside service will be held for Emerson Knox Foltz, 93, of Willows. He died February 11, 1998.
He was born Sept. 23, 1903 to George and Mary Foltz in Columbus, Ohio. He was the oldest of four sons, who all preceded him in death.
He came to California early in life and settled with his family in Dixon. The family then moved to Red Bluff, then on to Orland where his father worked for the Orland Creamery.
Mr. Foltz went through Orland High School, graduating in 1923, and went on to Chico Teachers College where he received his teaching credentials in 1929. He did his post graduate work in 1930 at San Jose College.
He married Thelma Cleek in 1929.
He taught school at Mill Street and continued teaching and being vice principal until 1948 when her was appointed to be the first principal of the newly built C. K. Price School. He remained in that position until he retired in 1966.
After his retirement the faculty and superintendent replaced his swivel office chair with a tractor seat, for, in his retirement he started another career as an almond/walnut rancher on his and Thelma's place on Highway 32.
He had a tremendous faith in the Lord and was a wonderful father and grandfather. He was also an avid reader and quoted a month before passing that reading had been his life.
He was preceded in death in 1978 by his wife, Thelma and in 1993 by a son, Glenn.
Surviving family members include Lorrayne Foltz, daughter-in-law of Orland, five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorial contribution may be made to the Orland Free Library Memorial Fund in Emerson's name in care of the mortuary.
