BRIDGEWATER - Rachel E. Spencer, 81, died Thursday, April 7, 2011, at Mass General Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born in Somerville, Mass., the daughter of Robert J. and Rachel (McLaughlin) (*maiden name McLachlan) Findlay. Rachel grew up in Lexington, Mass., and graduated from Lexington High School.
She later married Richard Spencer and they moved to Bedford, Mass., before moving to Bridgewater, N.H., in 1969.
Mrs. Spencer loved gardening, her family and her church. She was a faithful member of Calvary Independent Baptist Church for 41 years.
Family members include three daughters, Rachel Spencer-Pratt of Atkinson, Nancy Denton of Bridgewater, and Sandra Spencer of Danbury; two sons, Richard Spencer of Sprague, Conn., and Robert Spencer of Bristol; as well as seven grandchildren: Victor Spencer, Saul Pratt, Jacob Pratt, Alexander Denton, Matthew Pratt, Grace Denton, and Victoria Spencer.
There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be Saturday, April 16, at 10 a.m. at the Calvary Independent Baptist Church, Yeaton Road, Plymouth. Burial will be later in the spring in Old Home Cemetery, Bridgewater.
Arrangements are under the direction of Emmons Funeral Home, Bristol.
