Mother Mary Pius was born Eva Adeline Marshall in Detroit, Michigan. Her parents were John Baptiste Marshall and Elizabeth Lenhard. She was one of seven children born to their marriage, five of whom survived to adulthood. She taught Parochial School and was known as Sister Pia at St. Ferdinand's Catholic School. Through her loving devotion to God, she took the name of Mother Pius sometime after 1940.
