Verna V. Misialek was born June 13, 1908 in Oakwood Township, the daughter of the late Matt and Christina Misialek.
She was the sixth of nine children.
Verna was united in marriage to Florentine Gerszewski on November 8, 1926.
They farmed in Harriston Township and had two sons: Medard and Adrian.
In 1954, the couple built a house in Grafton.
Florentine continued to go to the farm to work with Adrian and Verna cleaned houses and worked at the hot lunch program at school to keep busy.
When Florentine got ill and went to the nursing home, Verna moved into the apartments at the Sunset home to be closer to Florentine, who passed away June 25, 1992. She continued to stay in her apartment until it was time to move into the Sunset Home.
Verna liked to garden, was a good seamstress; she liked to clean and was a wonderful cook and baker (especially her homemade buns).
She was a caring person and very set in her ways and beliefs.
Verna liked plain and simple things.
She lived a long life and saw a lot of changes in the world.
She liked to talk about the good old days.
She loved having visits with her nieces when they all got together.
She was a member of the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
Verna is survived by her sister, Adelaide Dvorak; grandchildren: Jeannette (Dave) Shambaugh, Arnold (Janet) Gerszewski, Matthew (Jody) Gerszewski, all of Grafton, ND; Karen Gerszewski Koder, Colorado Springs, CO; Mary (Adam) Shaw, Lincoln, NE and Nancy (Mat) Haggerty, Gilbert, AZ; daughters-in-law: Frances Gerszewski and Beverly Bjerke, all of Grand Forks, ND; 14 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sons, sisters: Josie (Joe) Bolek, Laura (Max) Schuster, Victoria (Ed) Schuster, Blanche (Frank) Schiller, Johanna (Frank) Paschke, Stephie (Richard) Riskey and brother, Dominic (Stella) Misialek along with many sisters and brothers-in-law and nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, May 29, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton.
Visitation will be on Friday from 9:00 -11:00 A.M. at the church.
Interment will be at the St. Johns Catholic Cemetery.
