Marilyn Norman, 80, of rural Searsboro, died Monday, November 7.

Graveside services will begin at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, November 12, at the Friends Cemetery northeast of Lynnville with Pastor Jeff Lee officiating. The family will hold a celebration service at 3 p.m. at the Lynnville Friends Church.

Visitation begins at 10 a.m. on Friday at the Harden Funeral Home in New Sharon with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m.

Marilyn Abbie Macy was born on January 31, 1925, in Poweshiek County, the daughter of Harold F. and Abbie Arnold Ratcliff Macy. She was a graduate of the Searsboro High School Class of 1942 and attended William Penn College in Oskaloosa. On December 27, 1945, she was married to Marvin K. Norman at the Macy family home. The lived on and farmed the land that has been in the Macy family for 125 years.

She was an active, fifth-generation member of the Lynnville Friends Church. She served on church committees, was involved in teaching, and held offices of the U.S.F.W. of her church. She was a member of the women's quilting group and the Loyal Fellowship Sunday School class. At 78, she participated in a mission trip to the Texas-Mexico border.

She enjoyed flowers and looked forward to transplanting at James Greenhouse each spring. During winter months, she attended high school and college basketball games. She welcomed family gatherings, preparing special meals for those occasions.

She is survived by four children, Beverly VanDerZyl of East Dubuque, Ill., Barbara Norman of Grinnell, Mark Norman of Searsboro, Myron Norman of Killduff; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sister, Mildred McKim of Clifton, Colo.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Marvin.

Memorials may be made to the U.S.F.W. Missionary Society of her church.
