Clarence Plunkett

SMITHVILLE Clarence Rankin Plunkett, 78, died Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999, at the North Mississippi Medical Center after a long illness. A lifelong resident of Monroe County, he was born Sept. 8, 1920, in Greenwood Springs to Marion F. and Molly Silas Plunkett. He attended Oak Hill School. He married Wonnie Addington in 1940. He retired from IMC after 35 years of employment. After retiring, he worked for Monroe County and drove a school bus for Smithville schools. He had lived in Smithville for 28 years. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory with the Rev. Conan Doyle officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Wonnie A. Plunkett of Smithville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Kaye Plunkett of Marshfield, Mo., and Danny and Cairon Plunkett of Fulton; three daughters, Nell Plunkett, and Joyce Guyton and her husband, Gredel, all of Smithville, and Sheryl Chambers of Blue Springs; a sister and brother-in-law, Audrey and Howard Dobbins of Sulligent, Ala.; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Fred Thomas Plunkett; and a granddaughter, Mary Joyce Ray.
