He was the son of Martin C. Barringer, Sr. and Esther Hahn Barringer, and was the husband of Ileita Caldwell Barringer.

From his obitaury:

"A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Banking and Commerce, he proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II. After moving to Mullins in 1947, he established Barringer's Jewelers, where he remained active until his retirement. He also opened Gri-Barr's Men's Store of Mullins in 1956. He served as a Director of Davis National Bank from 1966 to 1990, diligently serving as Chairman of the Board from 1978 to 1990. He was also a former member of the Mullins Cotillion Club, Mullins Civitan Club, a charter member of the Mullins Rotary Club, and a Master Mason of the Damascus Lodge."

He was survived by a son, a daughter, four grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
