Jerry W. Bishop, 63, of Rural Retreat, Va., passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2007. Born April 10, 1943 in Pulaski, Va., he had been a resident of Rural Retreat, Va. for many years. He was a graduate of Pulaski High School and later of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Jerry retired from the Virginia Employment Commission and during his career worked at both the Marion and Wytheville offices. He was a member of the Rural Retreat Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy M. Bishop and Helen Slaughter Bishop. He is survived by his wife of more than 39 years, Kay C. Bishop, of the home; daughters, Lynne K. Bishop of Salem, Va., Ann L. Bishop, as well as his granddog, Riley, both of Dublin, Va.; brother and sister-in-law, Guy M. Bishop and Nancy W. Bishop of Pulaski, Va.; his nephews and their families, Marc and Nancy Bishop and their children, Jeremy Bishop and Emily Bishop, Brian and Kelly Bishop, all of Pulaski, Va.; numerous other relatives also survive. Jerry was a loving father and husband and will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, January 26, 2007 at the Highland Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Dublin, Va. with the Rev. James D. Weaver officiating. Interment will follow the service. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the Lindsey Funeral Home. Lindsey Funeral home, Rural Retreat, Va. is handling the arrangements.
