Cammie Gatrell, 98, of Rt. 1, Deep Valley, Tyler County, died at 9:10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, at United Hospital Center, following an extended illness.
She was born on Brush Run, Doddridge County, Aug. 2, 1893, a daughter of the late Joseph and Isabelle Forsyth Carr.
Her husband, Albert Benjamin Harrison Gatrell, whom she married July 2, 1913, preceded her in death on March 19, 1952.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Glenn (Helen) James, Stow, Ohio; three sons, Edward Dick Gatrell, Dearborn, Mich., Romeo C. Gatrell, Salem, and Joseph Dairwood Gatrell, Weirton, and 28 grandchildren and several great- and great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by three sons, Neil, Kermit and Lawrence Gatrell; six brothers, and five sisters.
Mrs. Gatrell was a cook at the former Sycamore School at Deep Valley and had been a housekeeper at various residences. She was a member of the Arnolds Creek Christian Church, Deep Valley Farm Women's Club and the Order of Eastern Star Chapter No. 56 of West Union.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, at the Spurgeon Funeral Home, West Union. Interment followed in the Arnolds Creek Cemetery. Friends called at the funeral home from 2-9 p.m. Saturday and on Sunday 9 a.m. until time of service, with Rev. Lemoyne Horner, officiating. Order of Eastern Star Chapter #56, West Union conducted memorial services 7:30 p.m., Saturday. A Spurgeon Funeral Home Service, West Union.
