Services Tuesday for Vincent Cleek, Who Died Sunday
Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at two at the Sweet Chapel for Vincent C. Cleek, 80, one of the most prominent farmers of the Land of Orland and member of a pioneer family of the valley. Rev. Kenneth Thengvall of the Orland Evangelical Free Church will officiate at the services and burial will be in the Odd Fellows cemetery.
Mr. Cleek passed away Sunday shortly after noon at the Glenn General Hospital where he had been a patient for one week. He had been in failing health for some time and for the past few months had made his home with his son, Norris.
Mr. Cleek was the son of V. C. Cleek, Sr., prominent in valley history, who came to California as a boy in 1850 and settled southeast of Orland in 1871.
"Vince" Cleek, as he was known to all his friends, was a member of the Orland Water Users Board, of the Democratic Central Committee, of the Orland Farm Bureau Center, a director in the California Prune and Apricot Growers Association and a member of the Orland Masonic Lodge.
Mr. Cleek's wife, Mrs. Myra Norris Cleek, passed away in 1952. Mr. Cleek is survived by his son, Norris Cleek; his daughter, Mrs. Thelma Foltz; four brothers, John, Vallejo, Samuel, Santa Rosa, Jeb and James, both of Orland; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. – Transcribed by E.
