Campobello, SC - Mr. Ben Harrison Brashears, 86, of 610 Macedonia Church Rd., Campobello, SC, went to be with the Lord Sat., Jan. 3, 2009, at 8:14 p.m. He was a native of the Motlow Creek Community of Spartanburg County and had lived here for most of his life. He was the son of the late William "Willie" Dockins and Lucy Gosnell Brashears and was the last of the family of nine children. Mr. Brashears was a member of Evangel Cathedral of Spartanburg, where he was an usher until his health failed. He was a musician and played the guitar and was fond of all types of music. He was a decorated WW II veteran with the Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars. He fought in North Africa and the Italy Campaigns, where he was wounded at a location named Campobella. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Mrs. Lula McAbee Brashears of the home; two sons, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by three brothers; Edward, Ernest, and Alfred Brashears all of Spartanburg County; five sisters, Mildred Collins, Vera George, Elver Bradley, Onell Brashears, all of Spartanburg County, and Ruth Clayton, of Morristown, TN. Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. at Petty Funeral Home, Landrum, SC. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Petty Funeral Chapel, Landrum, SC.
