New Jersey Governor, Presidential Cabinet Secretary. Born the son of inventor Thomas A. Edison, he attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, became manager of the Edison Phonograph Company, the Edison Storage Battery Company and was president of Thomas A. Edison Incorporated, in 1926. He was a as a member of the New Jersey State Recovery Board, the state director of the National Emergency Council and a member of the National Industrial Recovery Board. He also served as a regional director of the Federal Housing Administration, in (1934) and as Secretary of the Navy, (1939-40). In 1940, he was elected as a Democrat the 42nd Governor of New jersey, serving until 1944. After his term, he resumed his position as board chairman of the Edison Company until he retired in 1961.
