Mary Louisa James was born in Dallas County, Iowa, June 27th 1857. Died: at her late home in Lyons, Kans., June 26th, 1909, being 51 years, 11 months and 29 days old. She was married to Geo. Barngrover at Adel, Iowa, Nov. 4, 1875. To this union seven children were born, two of whom preceded her to the mansions prepared for them. Five survive and were present at the funeral. At the age of fourteen years, she gave her heart to Jesus and united with the Christian church, worshiping near Adel, Iowa. With her husband she came to Chase, in the fall of the year 1893. They at once identified themselves with the Christian people, worshiping at that place, and the weather was scarcely ever too bad for them, with their little ones, not to be on time for the Sunday School and church services. Many of the young people of Chase will remember her as a kind and loving Sunday School teacher. Those that loved her most knew: her best. She being ever ready to undergo hardships to make others happy. For six months she has been a great sufferer, yet without a murmur. Her last days, though full of trouble, she seemed to forget it all for the sake of others. Her last request to her husband and children was; that they weep not for her. but that they prepare to come to her; When cards and flowers began to arrive from friends and her Sunday School class, as they did from day to day for two weeks, she pronounced a blessing on each of them personally. Among the very last words she said "oh Lord come and take me." She died as she had lived believing in the promises of Him who said. "He that liveth and believeth in me shall never die." If she could speak-to us today she would say: Remember friends as you pass by as you are now, so once was I.
