Leona Isabel Gerszewski was born in Walshville Township of Walsh County, ND, on October 29, 1920, the daughter of August and Bernice (Greevers) Gerszewski.
She grew up near Warsaw and attended school at St. Stanislaus Convent there. On February 21, 1939 she married John Korczak in Minto, ND. They settled on a farm in Fork Township, north of Oslo, MN. John died on September 9, 1990. Leona moved to Drayton in September of 1992. In September of 1999 she moved to Woodside Village. She was a member of St. Edward's Catholic Church.
Family members include a daughter, Kathy (Raymond) Korynta, Ardoch, ND; three sons: Mark (Estelle) Korczak, Lumberton, MS, Tom (Pat) Korczak, Kentwood, LA and Andrew (Jacqueline), Drayton, ND; 12 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and a sister, Isabel Niswonger, Minto, ND, as well as nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Max Walski; and two brothers: Henry Gerszewski and Ernest Walski.
Funeral Services are scheduled for Thursday, May 21, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Edward's Catholic Church in Drayton.
Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Minto. Visitation will be on Wednesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. in St. Edward's with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
