Andrew J. "Andy" Loesche, 89, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester on Tuesday, May 19, 2009. He was born in Petersburg, Iowa, on April 1, 1920, the son of Henry and Mary (Thole) Loesche. He was raised and educated in the Petersburg area. Andy served honorably in the United States Army during World War II, stationed in Alaska.
On January 7, 1947, Andy was united in marriage to Melaine B. Steffen at the Dyersville Basilica. Together they farmed near Manchester. Andy and Melaine retired from farming in 1978. They enjoyed traveling in their motor home and wintering down south. Melaine died May 2, 2007.

Andy was a resident and enjoyed living at the Good Neighbor Home since September of 2007. He was a dedicated caregiver to his wife for many years while she was coping with Alzheimer's. Andy was a long-time member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the American Legion. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the family dogs, driving around looking at farms, and baseball, especially the Chicago Cubs.

Survivors include one son, Fred Loesche (friend Sally Digman) of Earlville; four daughters, Linda (John) Foster of Manchester, Lois (John) Sands of Delhi, Jeanne (Arnie) Riniker of Manchester, and Barb (Dick) Recker of Manchester; thirteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; four siblings, Lawrence (Maxine) Loesche of Arizona, Delores (Paul) Lammers of Dyersville, Bernice (Harry) Gassman of Cascade, and Sylvester (Alma) Loesche of Petersburg.

Andy was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Melaine Loesche; one sister, Laurine Kruse; and brother-in-law, Clarence Kruse.
