United States Army Officer. He volunteered his services upon the start of the Spanish-American War, and was commissioned as a Captain of Volunteers, assigned to the Quartermasters Corps. After the end of the war he was sent to the Philippines to serve in the suppression of the insurrection. He became ill there, and was invalided to the US to recover. However, he succumbed to his illness while his ship was approaching San Francisco. He was the brother of New York Governor William Sulzer and Congressman Charles Sulzer.
