Civil War Veteran. He served in Company I, 2nd Iowa Calvary. He enlisted into the Union Army on December 7, 1863 and was discharged on September 19, 1865. He was a prisoner of war from December 17, 1864 until his his escape the following day. He was promoted to the rank of Bugler on January 1, 1865.
