On Thursday afternoon Emil Hanske passed away at his home,
after a lingering illness caused by a cancerous growth on the neck. He had been in a hospital at Indianapolis for the past three months, where he took medical treatment, after which his condition improved and he seemed to be gaining steadily, until last week. Mrs. Hanske spent a few days with him at the hospital, and brought him home Tuesday night.
Emil Hanske was born in Germany, March 25, 1858, coming to Sheboygan with his parents at the age of two years. He was married to Helen Griebenow, Nov. 12, 1891. For a number of years he was a very successful painter and decorator; a stagecurtain at Ortlieb's hall is an example of his ability as a landscape artist. Several years ago he purchased the Fremont house, conducting this business until his illness.
Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Mrs. E. Arps of Chilton, and a son, Carl, who is taking a medical course at Yale University, for army service.
