Mr. Tomlinson was born May 2, 1922, in Clinch County, to the late James Tomlinson, Sr. and Agnes Eva Dame Tomlinson. He was retired from Brockway Standard as Personnel Manager, a member of the First Baptist Church, Mason, retired from the Elections Board, Bailiff for Clinch County Superior Court, past Hospital administrator, past Clerk of Court, YFW, he was the Hearse Driver for Roundtree Funeral Home for 20 Years, a Honorary Member of the Exchange Club, and a Veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard 1942-1945 during WWII. He loved his family, people, and working in the yard. Mr. Tomlinson was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Parker and Louise Mathis; one brother, James Tomlinson, Jr.
Survivors are his wife, Sybil Jane Tomlinson of Homerville; a daughter, Janice Tomlinson Griffis, of Homerville; a son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Betty Tomlinson, Jr. of Sana Roas Shore, Fla.; three grandchildren, Jonathon and Julie Tomlinson of Belle Chasse, Fla., Kayla Griffis of Homerville, and Matt and Marli Swensen of Lavelle, Fla.; six great-grandchildren, Olivia and Isabella Tomlinson, Braxtyn and Aliyah Smith, and Matthew and Maci Swensen; and several other relatives.
Services for Mr. Tomlinson were held Saturday, May 9, 2009 at2 p.m. from the First Baptist Church.
Officiating was Rev. Wes Fowler and Rev. Ed Falgout.
Internment was in the Arabia Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Jonathon Tomlinson, Roland Sutton, Stanley Lankford, Larry Parker, Tyler Sutton, Jimmy McClaney and Cecil Barber.
Everyone that attended the funeral were considered honorary pallbearers because of his love for people.
Sara Deese sang "Go Rest High On That Mountain", a CD of "When I Get Where I'm Going" was played, W.G. Smith led the congregation in "Amazing Grace" at the graveside.
