James Clayton Payne, Jr., 62, of Utica passed away Sunday, May 3, 2009 at
the Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born in Hancock County on
January 21, 1947. He was retired from W.R. Grace where he was an extruder
operator for 35 years; was a member of SS Joseph and Paul Catholic Church
where he was a Eucharistic Minister, Hospitality Minister and Sacristan
Minister; was a lifetime member of Bassmasters International; and was an Air
Force veteran of the Vietnam War. He enjoyed hunting and fishing,
refinishing furniture, was an avid UK fan and, especially, enjoyed spending
time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, James
Payne, Sr. in 1971.

Survivors include his former wife of 23 years, Vickie Payne; daughters, Mary
Mischelle Kassinger of Utica and Carol (Tim) Jackson of Owensboro;
grandchildren, Ryan Kassinger, Matthew Grimes, Codie Jackson and Hannah
Jackson; his mother, Katherine Payne Brand; sisters, Cecelia Kaelin (Jim)
Baldwin of Hartford, Sheila (Steve) Byrne, Rebecca (Scott) Hester of
Owensboro, and Patricia (Jimmy) Vowels of Pleasant Ridge; brothers, Michael
Payne, Sr. of Owensboro, David Payne, Sr. of Hartford, and Tony (Mary Jo)
Payne of Utica; and his constant companion, Max.

Services were Wednesday, May 6, at SS Joseph and Paul Catholic Church.

Burial was in Resurrection Cemetery where military honors were rendered by
VFW Post 696. Glenn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Online
