Eugene was married several times, but only had children with Anne McDougal. They met in Chicago after the war where he was working for Sears.
Eugene had attended the University of NC on a football scholarship and graduated in 1936. He began working for Sears and they moved him to Chicago where he met Anne. He was then transferred to Atlanta.
Later he founded the Barwick Carpet Co.

Eugene T. "Gene" Barwick played a key role in promoting and developing new products and new processes for the tufted carpet industry. A native of Lake City, FL, Barwick worked as a floor covering buyer for Sears after military service during World War II. Barwick's travels brought him to the Dalton tufting district, where he purchased small rugs for his employers. Barwick quickly realized the growth potential of this budding industry as he observed the race to produce larger and larger rugs. Barwick went into manufacturing himself in 1949, investing all his savings. some $4,000, to buy out one of his suppliers.
