Eliza suffered many hardships while her husband John was fighting for the Confederate State of America in the Civil War. She already had 4 small children when he enlisted and another son
Elijah Keen Burt was born while John was away in battle. After the War was over, John returned to his family in Clarke County, MS and he and Eliza continued to live out their days there. Eliza died 22 Feb 1917 and John died about 4 months later on 18 June 1917. They are buried side by side at New Bethel Cemetery in Clarke County, MS.
