Mr. Evans died January 13, 2001, at his residence.
He was born October 3, 1920, in Griffin to the late Homer Jessie and Mattie Hudspeth Evans. He joined the Army in 1939, and trained at Fort D. A. Russell in Marfa, where he became a first lieutenant. He completed OCS training in North Carolina before to Fort Bliss and the Phillippines, where he served until 1949. He was a bookkeeper for the city of Dallas tax department for 25 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Wills Point, where he was a deacon.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Maxine Evans, in 1980; brothers, Don Evans and Charles Evans; and sister, Lela Chitty.
