Hiram Jeffrey was a son of William Jeffrey and Ruth Allen Jeffrey. He married widow Jane Saxon Shortridge in Fayette County, Indiana on February 3, 1848. Their children were Austin M., Frances, Jasper N., Clarilda, Marshall, Mary, and Margaret. Hiram and Jane also raised Jane's niece, Mary Ann "Mollie" Saxon.
The following information was provided by Wabash County Military c/o VF: Enlisted on 7/23/1862 as a Private.On 7/23/1862 he mustered into "A" Co. IN 75th Infantry
He was transferred out on 2/16/1864. On 2/16/1864 he transferred into Veteran Reserve Corps (date and method of discharge not given).
