Mrs. Ruth Geneva Layfield, age 85 of Jonesboro, died Friday, May 15, 2009 at Northern Louisiana Medical Center in Ruston following a lengthy illness. She was a retired Medical Assistant and a member of Southside Baptist Church of Jonesboro.
Friends may visit with the family at Southern Funeral Home of Jonesboro from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM Sunday, May 17, 2009. Funeral services will be held at Southside Baptist Church in Jonesboro 11:00 AM Monday, May 18, 2009 with Reverend Richard Shreve and Reverend Robert Tyler officiating. Interment will be at Gayla Traina Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Layfield is survived by sons, Gerald Layfield and wife Carolyn of Jonesboro, Douglas Layfield and wife Sandy of Haughton, Bobby Layfield and wife Barbara of Heflin, Gary Layfield and wife Teresa of Jonesboro; daughter, Patty Balena & husband Eddie of Mesa, AZ; 14 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; a host of other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sim Otis Freeman and Hattie, nee Ayres, Freeman; husband, Lathon Layfield; grandson, Joshua Layfield; 3 sisters and 2 brothers.
