Henry Sater Sr. ,the planter,was born of English Parents in western shire of England. In 1709,during the time of Queen Anne,at the age of 19, he left Engand and landed in 1710 at Little York,or Smith Port,Va. First landing in Virginia,he subsequently settled in Maryland and established his plantation Chestnut Ridge about 2 miles north of Brooklands on the Falls Road(MD. Route 25)near Lutherville,Maryland. It was here he married Dorcus Towson.
In 1742 he deeded the land to build the first Baptist Church with the bricks brought over from England as ships ballast.The Sater's Baptist Church was deeded to the Baptist Denomination " forever to the end of the world".
