Emitte Graden Akers, 93, of Northampton Convalescent Center, Hampton, and formerly of Pulaski, died Tuesday morning, January 14, 1997, in Hampton. Born May 7, 1903 in Floyd County, he was the son of the late Ida Blanche Walker Akers & Charles Henry Akers. Mr. Akers was preceded in death by his first wife, Josie Elizabeth Hawkins Akers, his second wife, Mary Sue Reynolds Stoots Akers; a daughter, Irene A. Rooks; and a stepson, Ralph Carlton Stoots Sr. He was the former owner and president of the Virginia Block Co., and a member of the First Pentecostal Holiness Church of Pulaski, where he served in the past on the Board of Deacons and Board of Trustees. He is survived by one stepdaughter, Mrs. Wayne (Patsy) Gray of Hampton; three sisters, Virginia A. Myers of Christiansburg, Tressie Cole of Blacksburg, and Bessie Tilley of Lanett, AL; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Graveside funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday from the Appalachian Conference Cemetery, Dublin, with Rev. James W. Alley officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Thomas M. Seagle & Sons Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
