Shannon Ailene Bott Anderson, our dear mother, daughter, sister, and friend, passed away on May 9, 2009 at age 38.

Shannon was born in Chicago on February 27, 1971 to S. Diana Barrett and Michael P. Bott.

She was a beautiful blond girl, the first of five children. She began mastering Kung Fu at an early age, mostly to protect herself from her rowdy little brothers. She could certainly hold her own. Shannon was legendary for her beauty, charm and out-going nature. She stopped a room with her grand entrances and dramatic exits.

She appreciated people of all walks of life and frequently reached out to the underprivileged and socially awkward. She loved to laugh. Shannon was passionate and impulsive. A voracious reader, she adroitly wielded an impressive vocabulary in expressing herself. She had no qualms about letting you know exactly where you stood with her.

Friends and family marveled at how she would cut them to size with her dry sarcasm, then, with a flash of her patented smile or head flip/laugh combination reassure them of her love. Reading, film, dancing and 80's music were among her greatest passions. Shannon was as comfortable in ballet slippers as she was in cowboy boots. And, as a founding member of the Shadow Valley Breakers, she could break-dance, too.

Shannon was creative and had talent in crafts, drawing, and painting. Her greatest masterpieces, though, were her beloved daughters Alexa and Lauren. They were the jewels of her life. She often marveled at why she was blessed with such amazing daughters. She was so proud of their intelligence, beauty, humor and resilience.

Shannon is survived by her daughters Alexa and Lauren Leal, mother Diana Patane, stepmother Elizabeth Bott, brothers Daniel (Ashley), Brandon, Jonathan (Sharon) and Sean (Alicia). Preceded in death by sister Erin Bott, father Michael Bott, and grandmother Avon Bott.

Family and friends may visit the bereaved at the viewing on Thursday, May 14, 2009 at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 East Dimple Del Road (10600 South), Sandy, from 6 to 8 p.m. A second viewing will be held on Friday, May 15, 2009 in the Willow Canyon Fifth Ward Chapel, 1880 East 9800 South, Sandy, at 10 a.m., with Funeral Services following at 11 a.m.
Interment will be at the Larkin Sunset Gardens.
