Born by about 1588 (based on date of marriage). Husbandman from King's Lynn, Norfolk, who came to Massachusetts Bay in 1635 (based on admission to Boston church on 17 April 1636). First settled in Boston; moved to Exeter in 1639, & back to Boston by 1645. Died between 29 May 1649 (date of will) and 5 June 1649 (probate of will).
Married in King's Lynn St Margaret, Norfolk, 5 August 1613 Ann Lobley. She died before 29 December 1653 when her inventory was taken.
The parish of King's Lynn, Norfolk, is close to the border with Lincolnshire and it would not be surprising to find that the Gross family knew many of the families in Wheelwright's orbit while still in England. In particular we see that Gross was associated with PHILEMON PORTMORT {1634, Boston} and WILLIAM WARDWELL {1633, Boston}.
The inventory and list of debts for Isaac Gross were not recorded in the probate registers at the time they were created, and, by the time they were entered in a supplementary volume in the nineteenth century, the documents were damaged, and some information has been lost. In particular, it is uncertain whether the date remaining on the inventory is the date of the death of Gross, or is the date the inventory was taken. We have assumed here that it is the date of the inventory, and also the date of the probate of the estate.
