Hesket was a farmer and became involved in the Civil War. He was a Private in Smith's Legion* as of Feb. 14, 1863 and transferred to Co. A in March, 1863.

*This Company of the "Gilmer Light Guards" was organized in May 1862, as Co. B, Inf. Battn., Smith's Legion, GA Volunteers. It became Co. A, 65th Regt. GA Inf., in March 1863.

He and Lusinda (Lucinda) were married about 1851 in probably Union Co., GA and had 11 known children:
