Baxter Winnaford was born in Amite County, MS in 1828. He had 4 brothers (Felix, Alexander Ephraim, Silas Cicero,Hardy Hugh) and 4 sisters (Julia Kate, Nancy Palmyra, Melissa Jane, Patricia Susan). Baxter married Margaret Hoover (1830-1853) in MS on 25 Nov 1847. They had 3 children. Baxter then married Sarah Ann Allen (1838-1913) on 24 Aug 1854. They had 7 children. Baxter served the Confederacy in the Civil War as a member of the 4th Louisiana Infantry, Company 1. Baxter and Sarah moved to Louisiana between 1854-1860. Margaret is buried in MS and Sarah Ann is buried in Nolley Cemetery in Jena, LA.
