Vernie Mae (Almond) Whitley, 82, of 451 Montgomery Ave., Albemarle, died Sunday, May 10, 2009, at her home.
She was born April 13, 1927 in Robeson County. She was the daughter of the late Pierce Albert Almond and the late Martha Jane "Jenny" (Andrews) Almond.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jennings Tillman Whitley, who died in 1999.
She is survived by a son, Keith Whitley and wife, Ann, of Albemarle; a daughter, Barbara Vanstory of Charlotte; grandchildren, Justin Vanstory, Tanya Bohan and husband David, Sabrina Mabry and husband Dennis and Angela Helms and husband Chris; great-grandchildren, Eli, Jacob and Emily Bohan, Cole and Maclay Mabry and Hunter and Bo Helms; a sister, Elizabeth Palmer of New London.
Mrs. Whitley was a homemaker and had been employed by Belk's.
The family will meet at the home of son Keith Whitley, 31869 Ameron Circle, Albemarle.
Arrangements are being handled by Hartsell Funeral Home- Albemarle, where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral will be at Lakeview Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Wednesday with a 30 minute state, Rev. Tab Whitley officiating. Interment will be at Stanly Gardens of Memory in Albemarle.
