Charles D. Doner was born May 3, 1868, in Clear Creek Township, Fairfield County, Ohio, the son of Nathaniel and Mary Ann Steward Valentine. He married on April 27, 1905, in Fairfield County, Ohio, to Melva Etta Valentine, daughter of George Leist Valentine and Lovina J. Boldaser. They apparently had no children. Charlie died on August 8, 1954 in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio, and was buried on the 10th in Maple Hill Cemetery in Stoutsville, Fairfield County, Ohio.
