Louis Joseph Trosclair Sr., 87, a native and resident of Thibodaux, passed into God's kingdom while at home surrounded by loved ones Thursday, May 7, 2009.
Funeral services were already held, with burial at St. Joseph Cemetery in Thibodaux.

He is survived by seven sons, Louis Jr., Wayne, Glenn, Gary, Timothy, Danny, and Keith; four daughters, Cheryl Henderson, Janelle Morvant, Robyn Williams, and Stephanie Conner; one sister, Marie Gaudet; 26 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 3 step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther Acosta Trosclair; his parents, Gracien Trosclair and Marie Clement Trosclair; one grandchild, Trina Boudreaux; two great-grandchildren, Parker Trosclair and Austin Roberts; one step-grandchild, Roxie Aucoin; one brother, William Trosclair; one daughter-in-law, Faye Guidry Trosclair; and three sisters, Nora Shaw, Anna Mae Boutte, and Velma Lagarde.

Louis was born January 24, 1922 in Thibodaux and lived in the St. John Community where he was a parishioner of St. John's Catholic Church and a member of the St. John's Men Club. He graduated from LT School in Thibodaux and attended Louisiana State University. He had a masonry construction background, worked at Supreme Sugars, for the Lafourche Parish School Board, the City of Thibodaux and was also a general construction contractor. He needed many jobs, sometimes two or three at a time, to support his large family.

Louis was a member of the country's greatest generation, serving in the military in World War II and was a prisoner of war for nine months. He was in the 389 Bomb Group 8 AF and received several medals and distinguished awards. He is a lifetime honorary member of the V.F.W. Military honors will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the church.

Louis loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and especially camping with his family and friends. He enjoyed trawling and popierring for shrimp. He loved to eat and cook for his large family, friends and church. He also enjoyed playing cards with his buddies on Thursday evenings.

He will be greatly missed by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives, and many dear friends.
