Jacob and his wife Elizabeth Granger Adams were married Feb 1, 1872 in MarionCounty Illinois (Kinmundy).
when they were first married they settled in Shelby or Shelbyville Illinois. Jacob and Elizabeth eventually had at least 9 children together. To see the names and info on all those children refer to Elizabeth Granger Adams Bruner information in Find A Grave.

Prior to marrying Elizabeth Jacob served in the Civil War with the Union Army he was assigned to the 66th Indiana Infantry, Company I as a Private. His military records show that he enlisted on August 7, 1862 in New Albany Indiana and was captured on August 30, 1862 in the battle for the city of Richmond Kentucky. After Jacob died in 1900 his widow applied for (in 1924) a Civil War widows pension from the federal government under application number 1217292. It looks like he was "Paroled" as a POW by the Confederate Army as many prisoners were and then he apparently deserted after he rejoined his company around Nov 12, 1862.

After Jacob and Elizabeth married they remained in the area of Francher, Shelby County Illinois where most of their children were born but they moved to Fannin County Texas between 1887 and 1892 and bought farm land about 15 miles north of Bonham Texas. They remained on this property until Jacob death in 1900 and then Elizabeth continued to live on the family farm until her death. Currently several of Jacobs and Elizabeth's grandchildren and great grandchildren still live on parts of their origional farm.
