John Boggs was the son of William Henderson Boggs and Anne Johnson Boggs. John was killed when struck by a cannonball, 3 Jul 1863, in what is now known as Pickett's Charge at the Battle of Gettysburg.Despite the fact that there is a headstone for John, he is in fact buried at Gettysburg in a mass unmarked grave. This is a memorial stone placed by members of Col. Ben E. Caudill Camp No. 1629, SCV, Letcher County, KY, to honor his memory and sacrifice.
