The Clinton Eye (Clinton Missouri) 17 Oct 1924 Fri p. 3:
A. L. Brown died at his home, in the Hickory Grove neighborhood, October 8th, after four years suffering with dropsy and complications. He was born in Barry County 59 years, 5 months, and 14 days ago. He had lived in Henry County since the early nineties, moving here soon after his marriage to Miss Mary Frances Sampson, February 18th, 1892
She survives him with the following children: Mrs. Zella Wilson, Mrs. Ocie Thomas, Buford Brown, Mrs. Lizzie Scott, and Mrs. Bessie Robbins, all residing in the home neighborhood, and the following still at home to comfort their mother: Ruby, Eva, Ethel, Florence and Cecil. He also leaves two sisters ---- Mrs. James Raines, near Garland, Mrs. Laura Gooding, and brother, Elmer.
Deceased had lived near Calhoun and Quarles before moving to the place where he died. He was a good Christian man and had been a member of the M. E. Church since he was 18 years old.
Rev. H. A. Wood preached the funeral at the Hickory Grove Church and his body was interred in the Calhoun Cemetery.
