Josiah was tall, wore whiskers and a mustash. When they moved to New Centerville from Martell they had a big hotel which burned to the ground in 1891.

Again has the death angel come into our midst and took Mr. Josiah K. Hudson from us. Mr. Hudson died very suddenly of heart desease. Josiah K. Hudson was born in Erie Co., New York in 1834 and died at New Centerville, June 21, 1899 at the age of Sixty five years.
He came west about 1850 and settled in this vicinity, and about the time he married Miss Samantha Warner who with eight children survived him. His youngest son, a young man of twenty died only four months ago. At the beginning of the Civil War he enlisted, fisrst in the 12th Wis. Inf and afterwards in the 50th Wis. Inf and served until the end of the war when he was honorably discharged. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Atchison of Baldwin, and his former pastor, Rev. L. W. McKibben of Ono. The G. A. R. of which he was a member attended in body and bore his remains to their last resting place, and at the grave each lovingly laid flowers on the casket of their comrade. The flag hung at half mast a day in honor of one of its defenders and one who was universally respected. Among those from out of town who attended Mr. Hudson's funeral were his children Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hudson and daughter of Ellsworth, Mr and Mrs Derro of Beldenville, Mr and Mrs Jake Vanderburg of Pleasant Valley, his sister Mrs. Hans B. Warner of Ellsworth and his nephews, Mr. Ralph Warner and wife of Sioux Falls, Iowa, and Fred magee and wife of Spring Valley.

DIED - At his home in New Centerville, Josiah K. Hudson at the age of sixty five, of heart failure.
Mr. Hudson was born in Erie, Co., N.Y. in 1834 and died June 21, 1899. He came to Wisconsin when about sixteen and settled in this vicinity, in 1853 marrying Miss Samantha Warner. There have been thirteen children born to them, eight of who survive him, together with his wife and sister, Mrs. Hans B. Warner of Ellsworth.
At the time of our country's peril Mr. Hudson enlisted, first in the 12th Wis. Inf. and afterwards in the 50th Wis. Inf. and was honorably discharged at the close of the war. He was a member of the G.A.R. of this place, and his comrades followed him in a body to his last resting place, and as the casket was being lowered tenderly dropped a flower. The flag hung a half mast all day in honor of a man who was universally respected by the community.
The funeral service was conducted by Rev. Archeson of Baldwin and his former pastor, Rev. L. W. McKibben of Ono.
