Services for D.D. Mitchell, 85, of Canton, are scheduled for 4 p.m. Thursday, May 14, 2009, at Eubank Chapel with Bro. Don Childress officiating, under the direction of Eubank Funeral Home, Canton.
Burial will be in Holly Springs Cemetery, Martins Mill.
He passed away quietly at his home in Canton, Tuesday, May 12, 2009.
Mr. Mitchell was born October 5, 1923, in Martins Mill to Lucian and Verbie Selke Mitchell Sr.
He was a member of First Baptist Church Canton. He grew up in Martins Mill. He served his country in the Navy during World War II. After serving in the Navy he earned his master's degree from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville. He retired after 35 years of teaching agriculture in the Canton public schools. He was an avid quail hunter. He loved his farm at Martins Mill, along with the people who live there, his bird dogs, and most of all, his grand and great-grandchildren.
D.D. was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Tom Prestridge and Lucian Mitchell; and a sister, Helen Barber.
Surviving are his wife, Jackie Mitchell of Canton; son and daughter-in-law, Gerald and Brenda Mitchell of Canton; daughter, Gwen Mitchell of Fort Worth; four grandchildren, Shannon Gale, Jill Evert, Holly Moffett and Scott Wallace; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Mayfair Hooten of Martins Mill; and brother, Leon Mitchell of Tyler.
Pallbearers will be Gary Wallace, Craig Brown, Rodney Tolar, Adam Tolar, Nicholas Gale and Scott Wallace
Honorary pallbearers will be former FFA students.
Family will receive friends Thursday, 2 to 4 p.m., at the funeral home.
