Born on Sept. 9, 1920, in Lockport, she was a daughter of the late W. Harry and Carrie Mae (Ruble) Skipper. Her husband, John L. Griffith, preceded her in death.
Surviving are: children, Robert G. Shively, of Wellsville, Brenda Herman and husband, James, of Camp Hill, Debra Carpenter and husband, Bernard, of Lewistown, Lattimore J. Griffith and wife, Sharon, of Lewistown, Teresa Griffith, of Hershey, Claudia Houston and husband, Johnny, of Augusta, Ga., Timothy M. Griffith, of Lewistown, Clifford L. Griffith, of Lewistown; three brothers, Donald Miller, of Lewistown, Glenn Miller, of Carbor City, Calif., Warren Gill, of Tempe, Ariz.; 21 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four children, Jennifer Foltz, Katherine Shively, Charles Shively, Rodney Newton Griffith; three sisters, Mary Baumgardner, Ruth Baumgardner, Florence Casner; three brothers, Russell, Ralph and Alan Skipper.
Early in life, she was employed as a waitress and later worked as a cook at Lewistown Daycare.
In 1995, at the age of 75, she earned her high school equivalency degree.
She was a member of the Salvation Army, Lewistown, as well as its Home League and League of Mercy.
She was also a member of the Pensioners Club, War Mothers, Women of the Moose, Golden Age Senior Citizens, Malta Home Auxiliary and the Red Hat Society.
A wonderful and loving mother, grandmother and friend, she was always one to put others first.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, at Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 S. Market St., McVeytown, with Bonnie Purvis officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown, with Major Raymond Simpson and the Rev. Bernard Carpenter officiating.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
