E. Louise Stewart, 89, of Burlington, died on Saturday, May 9, 2009 at 11:09 a.m. at the Great River Medical Center Klein Unit.

Born on April 20, 1920 near Bonaparte, Iowa, she was the daughter of Carl Stanley and Ruth Elizabeth VanNice Atherton. She married James Newton Stewart on June 1, 1941 in Mediapolis, Iowa.

Mrs. Stewart worked in production at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant for 16 years, retiring in 1983. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church where she served with the Presidents Womens Club and as past Deacon. She loved baking birthday cakes and spending time with her family and attending gatherings. She was an excellent cook.

Survivors include her husband James of Danville, one son Larry (Ruth Ann) Stewart of Danville; a daughter- in- law Marcia Stewart of Burlington; four grandchildren; Shelly Pleasant of Burlington, Staci Geiger of Lemoore, CA, Matthew Stewart of Danville, and Sarah Stewart of Cedar Rapids; four great-grandchildren; James and Anna Pleasant of Burlington, and Bobby and Kylee Geiger of Lemoore, CA; one sister Myrtle Hoeg of Wapello; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son Robert, two brothers Stanley and Elwyn Atherton, and one sister Pauline Dotson.
